JAKARTA, 28 August 2025 – ASEAN, through the Lead Implementing Body for Sustainable Infrastructure (LIB-SI), convened the Pre-Market Sounding Event on the Updating and Advancing of the Initial Pipeline of ASEAN Infrastructure Projects on 27 August. Supported by the Australian government through the Aus4ASEAN Futures Initiative and facilitated by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) as consultant, the event gathered over 70 participants from project owners and officials across all ASEAN Member States (AMS), ASEAN’s external partners, multilateral development banks, financial institutions, private investors, and industry experts.
The event featured presentations to attract feedback and foster collaboration, alongside a panel discussion on Transport and Digital Infrastructure Development in ASEAN, which explored trends, opportunities, and challenges in advancing regional connectivity.
In her opening remarks, representative of the LIB-SI Chair, Wan Izar Haizan Wan Rosely, Principal Assistant Secretary, Malaysia’s Ministry of Economy emphasised that sustainable infrastructure is the backbone of ASEAN Connectivity and a driver of inclusive growth. In line with Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 Chair theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability, she highlighted that the event is not only about sharing project ideas. It is an opportunity for governments, investors, and experts to share knowledge and discuss the development of inclusive and sustainable projects that are implementable and deliver tangible benefits to the communities.
Amy Williams, Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Mission to ASEAN, added: ‘Australia is proud to support ASEAN in strengthening its infrastructure pipeline and connectivity. By supporting projects to become more bankable and investment-ready, we are building the foundation for resilient, sustainable, and inclusive growth across the region.’
The event marked an important step in updating the ASEAN Infrastructure Pipeline, a platform that promotes investment, enhances project visibility, strengthens institutional capacity, and fosters collaboration with partners to advance ASEAN Connectivity. Updating the Pipeline is a rolling process, evolving with AMS priorities and new opportunities for partnership.
