Half of ASEAN's population live in urban areas and an additional 70 million people are forecast to live in ASEAN cities by 2025. Rapid urbanisation has brought challenges such as floods, traffic congestion, and waste problems. Other major trends are impacting urbanisation in ASEAN such as the emergence of digital technologies and growing inequality, and most recently, a new way of living and working as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
